Cabaret Opera
FRIDAY OCTOBER 23

STREAM BEGINS 8PM AEST

(available to ticket holders for 24hours)

Created by Australian composer Nicholas Gentile and Lachland Hall, Together Apart explores complexities of human relationships in a swipe left or right world. Moments of intimacy, doubt, honesty, and choice, the piece gives a snapshot of four young lives negotiating what brings us together and pushes us apart. Together Apart is about letting people in and letting people go.

Nicholas Gentile was set to premiere his new chamber opera, Émilie and Voltaire, in Lucca, Italy in July 2020.

A prodigious talent, his music spans film, screen and stage.  Nicholas travelled Broadway through the Talent Development Project and worked with composers Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, Godspell, Pippin) and Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Sister Act, Aladdin), and subsequently performed in theatre venues around New York and Washington, including Don’t Tell Mamma and The Kennedy Centre, and was invited to take part in the Marvin Hamlisch Broadway Conductors Program.

Gertrude Opera's production of Together, Apart has four accomplished young Australian singers take on the 16 songs in this work, in an 'empty chairs at empty tables' cabaret format.
