We are delighted to launch the Gertrude Opera Competition in partnership with the Glyndebourne Opera Cup.
Open in 2019 to applicants born between March 7 1988 and March 7 1999 from Australia, New Zealand, China and Hong Kong, the winner of The Gertrude Opera Competition will receive a semi-final place in the Glyndebourne Opera Cup 2020 next March - joining 19 other young singers from around the globe at Glyndebourne's world-famous home in East Sussex, UK.
The Glyndebourne Opera Cup is an international competition for opera singers designed to discover and spotlight the best young singers from around the world.
Singers from Australia, New Zealand, China and Hong Kong are invited to submit online applications from September 1.
Finalists will be selected from online applications and brought to Melbourne in October to determine the inaugural Regional Winner. The Winner will be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at Glyndebourne in March 2020.
The competition, culminating on 7 March 2020, will focus on the operas of Mozart, Rossini and a selection of French 19th Century composers (Berlioz, Bizet, Gounod, Massenet, Offenbach, Saint-Saëns and A. Thomas).
The competition is intended for singers in the early stages of their professional career who are ready to perform on the opera stage. In addition to the prize money and professional exposure competitors can increase their public profile through the live broadcast of the Final on Sky Arts, the Glyndebourne Opera Cup’s official UK broadcast partner.
